Churrasco is a traditional Argentine dish consisting of grilled beef, typically cooked over an open flame or charcoal. It's known for its rich flavor and is often served with chimichurri sauce. Here’s a classic recipe for preparing churrasco:
Ingredients:
1 kg beef flank steak (or any preferred cut)
Salt, to taste
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Olive oil (for brushing)
For Chimichurri Sauce:
1 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
4 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup olive oil
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
1 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions:
Prepare the Chimichurri Sauce:
In a bowl, combine the chopped parsley, minced garlic, olive oil, red wine vinegar, oregano, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Mix well and set aside to let the flavors meld.
Prepare the Meat:
Bring the flank steak to room temperature. Season generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper on both sides. Brush lightly with olive oil.
Preheat the Grill:
Preheat your grill or barbecue to high heat.
Grill the Churrasco:
Place the seasoned steak on the grill and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side for medium-rare, depending on the thickness of the steak. Adjust the cooking time to your desired doneness.
Rest the Meat:
Once cooked, remove the steak from the grill and let it rest for about 5 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute.
Slice and Serve:
Slice the steak against the grain and serve with chimichurri sauce drizzled on top or on the side. Accompany with grilled vegetables, potatoes, or a fresh salad.
Enjoy your authentic Argentine churrasco!
